Biography

Jeff Bittner was born in Iowa City, Iowa, the same week as his father Richard accepted a job with the Davenport firm which today known as Betty, Neuman & McMahon. Jeff attended Pleasant Valley High School graduating second in his class in 1975. In high school Jeff lettered in golf and football. Jeff attended undergraduate school at the University of Iowa obtaining his bachelor of business administration in finance. Jeff graduated with highest distinction in 1980 receiving the Honors Convocation Committee's certificate of achievement for graduating in the top 2% of his class. He attended the University of Iowa Law School obtaining his law degree in 1984 with distinction.

Following law school Jeff became an associate with the law firm of Betty, Neuman and McMahon. In 1989, he became a partner in the law firm of Carlin, Hellstrom and Bittner which later became the law firm of Bittner, Lambert and Werner. In 2003, Jeff formed his own law firm, Jeff Bittner Law, P.C. In the early part of his career, Jeff focused his practice on business, tax and estate matters.

By the early 1990s Jeff was becoming increasingly involved in the area of litigation. In 1991, Jeff argued his first case to the Iowa Supreme Court. Today, Jeff has argued ten combined cases before the Iowa Supreme Court, the United States Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Iowa Court of Appeals. Jeff's first jury trial serving as lead counsel was a two week trial opposite two accomplished Iowa lawyers. Since then Jeff has tried multiple cases before both judges and juries. Jeff's current areas of practice include personal injury and wrongful death litigation, commercial litigation, education litigation, family law litigation and employment litigation. They further include business planning and document preparation, estate planning and probate.

In 2000, Jeff was appointed Chair of the Scott County Grievance Committee, a body charged with investigative authority on the ethical practices of lawyers practicing in Scott County, Iowa, Iowa's third largest county by population. Today, Jeff remains chair of this committee. In 2002, Jeff was elected to the Judicial Nomination Commission of Iowa's 7th Judicial District. Jeff served six years on the Commission until his term expired in January 2008.

Jeff is an accomplished amateur photographer. His favorite subject is the grizzly bear found in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding ecosystem.
